Employee Spotlight: Emilio Bernal

ABOUT

Emilio Bernal has been a part of our South Mill family for 6 years! He was born in Almoloya de Alquisiras in the State of Mexico and came to the United States when he was 15 years old. Emilio is the second youngest of 11 children; all of whom live nearby except for 2 who are in Des Moines, Iowa. Emilio became a citizen of the United States in 2010 – another American dream realized. Emilio began his journey at South Mill as a Waterman, then a Watermen Trainee, and has been a Grower at our Kennett Farm for the past 2 years. He loves working with the compost and watching the mushrooms grow. Emilio has a lot of family at South Mill: his eldest son, Daniel, is a Peat Moss Driver; brother Teofilo is a Supervisor; and another brother, Amador, works as a Waterman. His cousin, Constantino, does Utility work – all in our Growing Division. When he is not working, Emilio enjoys spending time with his family and taking them out to eat. He has a wife and 5 children – a daughter and son who attend Goldey-Beacom College in DE; another daughter that goes to the Culinary Institute in New York; and 2 younger sons in high school. Thank you for dedication and hard work, Emilio.
